Stephanie Chang
Stephanie Chang

Name: Stephanie Chang
Position: President, Honduras Projects Co-Chair
Hometown: Dunlap, Illinois
Major & Class: ECE ‘11

Recommended websites: The Economist, Technology Review, Instructables, and TED

Interests: ridiculous (and not-so-ridiculous) inventions, brainstorm sessions, children’s books, outdoor activities, horizon-expanding experiences

Activities: EWB, Computer Science 100/e UTA, Me Too Monologues

Stephanie is a junior from Dunlap, Illinois, who transferred from Trinity to major in ECE. As webmaster and treasurer during her freshman year, she set up EWB’s current Wordpress-powered website, obtained the DukeWiki space for project documentation, and streamlined the chapter’s finances information in a Google Docs spreadsheet. After traveling for EWB site assessments in Honduras and Bolivia in summer 2008, she led an effort to build a health clinic in Las Mercedes, Honduras in summer 2009. Stephanie is broadly interested in how technological innovation can be used to drive sustainable development.  She heartily recommends “PP147D: Environmental Politics and Policy in the Developing World” to any students interested in understanding the political, environmental, and economic forces that reinforce inequality and injustice around the world, including the regions where EWB works.  In “PP264S: Designing Innovation for Global Health,” EWB members can particularly benefit from case studies illuminating how to design more effective and culturally acceptable technologies.
